cande light prayer

This is a program to create a sense of concern towards trees among children and general public. Every year we honour a tree, growing on a public place for many years, extending service to human beings, animals and birds by providing shade, shelter and food to them.  Nominations for such trees to honour will be called through news papers from public. A judging panel with known environmentalists will be constituted and they will adjudge which is the most suitable tree for the title Punya Vrikshmâ or The Holy Tree. OISCA will do necessary civil works around the tree to protect it and a facelift to that area. One day, OISCA Members, ivited guests, people of that area and children from the nearby CFP Schools will gather under the tree and honour it in a traditional way. The growth in  nominations year by year shows the interest of public in environment protection and their concern towards our mother earth.  This idea was mooted by Mr. Theruvath Raman, one among the founder members of OISCA in south India and a veteran social worker and journalist in Kerala. The Punya Vriksha Award of this Siver Jubilee year of OISCA was declared and celebrated in his memory on his 1st death anniversary day. This year the award winner was a 200 year old gigantic  Thaanni (Terminalia bellerica)Standing on Medical college road, infront of IMHANS, Kuthiravattom.
